A Kairos weekend is a 4-day, in-prison, inter-denominational, short course in Christianity, specifically for selected prison inmates.  It brings love and forgiveness to an otherwise oppressive existence.  Designed particularly for non-Christians (especially leaders), talks and a variety of experiences develops the model of Christian love for others; introduces inmates to the standards of spirituality, study and Christian action; and demonstrates how one can live a life of grace with love and forgiveness, even in prison.  The "leader" qualities help participants spread God's message throughout the prison.  A follow-up program helps inmates sustain and share their new relationship with God.

Weekends are typically conducted twice each  year in over 300 prisons throughout the world.  Grace Church has supported the Kairos Prison Ministry in three Texas prisons in various ways.

  • Bartlett State Jail (men), about 30 minutes northeast of Georgetown, conducts weekends in March/April and September/October.  Grace has provided financial support, cookies, placemats, prayer chains, letters and posters.  Grace parishioners often serve as weekend team members.
  • Hobby Prison (women), about a 2 hour drive to Marlin east of Waco, holds weekends in January and July.  Grace members often attend their closing ceremonies on a Sunday afternoon.
  • Eastham Prison (men), near Huntsville and about a 4 hour drive east from Georgetown, has been supported financially for over 10 years.  Their Sunday closing ceremonies are often attended by people from Grace.
In addition, Grace has provided financial support to the Restorative Justice Network, an affiliation of non-profit support services for inmates who have been paroled or released and need help in being assimilated back into the "free-world" community.
